Each April, the City of Markham marks Earth Month with a series of initiatives that highlight its commitment to environmental conservation, sustainability, and community wellbeing.

Residents are invited to take part in this year’s celebrations, which reflect Markham’s leadership in sustainability through its Greenprint Community Sustainability Plan—focused on fostering cultural vibrancy, social wellbeing, and economic vitality.

Throughout the month, the City and its partners will host a variety of events for all ages, offering hands-on, educational experiences that showcase local environmental efforts and inspire community action.

Here’s what’s planned for Earth Month 2026:


Home Efficiency Retrofit Orientation (HERO) Virtual Workshop (Free)
Learn how to make your home more energy-efficient with this informative virtual session. The workshop will cover ways to reduce energy costs, improve comfort, and lower greenhouse gas emissions. Participants will also hear about available rebates from a Certified Energy Manager. Registration opens soon.

Markham’s Youth Science Exhibition
Explore innovative projects by local students passionate about environmental science, engineering, and climate solutions. This exhibition highlights creative approaches to tackling real-world environmental challenges.

Zine Workshop: Envisioning a Sustainable Markham

Curbside Giveaway Day
Give gently used items a second life by placing them at the curb for others to take—free of charge. Clearly label all items as “Free” and help promote reuse within the community.

Sustainability Weekend at Markham Museum
